Students at SPBC and THE WAYPOINT
Grades 6-12
Join other students growing deeper in their understanding of who God really is and who they were created to be.
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”
Students at SPBC and THE WAYPOINT
At South Parkersburg Baptist Church, we are a people who… PURSUE and PROCLAIM the kingdom of God and PARTICIPATE in what God is doing in the world. In keeping in line with the vision of SPBC, the student ministry will exist to help students pursue, proclaim, and participate in a safe and welcoming environment that fosters a lifelong connection with the church.
What is THE WAYPOINT?
In the adventure of life, students need markers to guide them on their path—waypoints that help them navigate through twists and turns. Just as adventurers rely on waypoints to navigate uncharted territory, our youth ministry building, The Waypoint, serves as a significant stop along our students’ journey with Jesus. Here, we believe that every moment spent in community, worship, and growth is a crucial marker on the map of our students’ faith. Whether they are just starting out or navigating their next steps, The Waypoint is designed to be a welcoming space where they can explore, discover, and connect with God and each other. Join us as we journey together, making memories, sharing experiences, and finding direction. Adventure awaits at The Waypoint.
What to EXPECT
We meet at The Waypoint (located at 1705 Blizzard Dr., behind the main church) on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00 PM, Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM, and Sunday evenings from 5:00-7:00 PM.
Wednesdays are our “Homework and Hangout” night. Students can bring their homework and receive help from our adult leaders (many of whom are teachers) and other students who have taken the same classes. No homework? No problem! We have games to play and plenty of space to hang out with friends.
Sunday mornings are our Discipleship Lessons. Our students are taught by passionate teachers who love to dig deep into God’s word. Breakfast is served every Sunday!
Sunday nights are our “Youth Group” time. Our evenings begin with dinner and time to hang out with one another and we then transition to a time of worship and teaching that includes biblical, practical, ways to navigate our lives.
Meet the Student Ministry LEADERS
Pastor Eric Kendall
There are no words for how blessed and excited I feel to serve SPBC as the director of youth and for the opportunity to give back to the church that has dramatically impacted my life. Together, we have the opportunity to build a place where our students can PURSUE and PROCLAIM the kingdom of God and PARTICIPATE in what God is doing in the world. We will learn together, serve together, play together, and work as a team with our students to grow together in God’s kingdom, and we will live by five key values that will shape everything we do together:
We will honor God and the Church with everything we do.
We will do anything short of sin to reach students with the Gospel.
We will provide a welcoming, safe, and nurturing environment for students.
We will always strive to do our best.
We will laugh, play, learn, and do life together.
We will love our students unconditionally and surround them with a church family that makes them feel safe, welcomed, and loved.
I am so excited to see where God leads us and to see how God will work in the lives of our students and our community.
Our Values
-
We will honor God and the Church with everything we do.
We must live our lives with God-honoring integrity
"If we live with integrity nothing else matters. If we don't live with integrity, nothing else matters."
-
We will do anything short of sin to reach students with the Gospel.
We must be creative and courageous in our approach to reaching students and families who don't know Christ.
-
We will provide a welcoming, safe, and nurturing environment for students.
Families are trusting us with their students. We must provide an environment of trust where families feel safe and comfortable to worship and serve together.
-
We will always strive to do our best.
God and the people we serve deserve the best we have to offer.
"Excellence honors God and inspires people."
-
We will laugh, play, learn and do life together.
Serving youth and families together should be fun and something we do joyfully together.
